Things which only civil engineers know

In CIVIL ENGINEERING, there is a set of skills that the engineers in this field learn over a period of years. It is the skills that they learn in engineering schools and which makes them a nightmare to architects and city planners. Here are some of the things which you ought to know:

• How many different cements are available:As a civil engineer, you will know the various types of cement available in the market and what goes into each of them, how they work, and what could be added to make them even better.
• Technical names of the curves which appear on the road: There are four types of road curves: deviation, reverse, compound and simple. The civil engineers know how to use the correct equation to design a road with each of the curves. Apart from that, they know how to calculate the type of slope which the road requires in order to be in the curve to ensure that the cars don’t slide off the road.
• Concrete doesn’t dry: In civil engineering school, civil engineers are tought that, concrete dry at certain points in its curving cycles. It technically continues to strengthen and dry over its entire lifespan.
• There are particle sizes for different soil types: Civil engineers don’t have to calculate to know the particle size, all they have to do is look at the soil and they will tell its size. Apart from that, they can determine which soil combinations make for better foundations and what is needed to make the ground more suitable when constructing.
• Why there are gaps in the tracks on railways and roads on bridges: It is because there is a need for expansion in the railways and roadways to allow the metals to expand and contract with varying temperatures.
